Porsche has not yet presented its new track-oriented Porsche Cayenne Coupé model and has already set a lap record at the Nürburgring.

On Wednesday, the German sports car manufacturer announced that the as yet unnamed high-performance Cayenne Coupé had set a lap record in the SUV, off-road vehicle, van, pick-up category.

A lightly camouflaged production car piloted by Lars Kern lapped the Nürburgring on June 14 at 11:31 a.m. in 7: 38.925 minutes at an outside temperature of 23 degrees Celsius and a track temperature of 115 degrees. The round was certified by a notary. The only modifications to the Cayenne Coupe that won’t be on the production vehicle were a racing seat and roll cage to protect the core. The record run was achieved with 22-inch Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires specially developed for this model, which will be standard.

“Its high steering precision and the stoically stable rear axle gave me a lot of confidence in the Hatzenbach section,” said Kern.

On many vehicles, the wheels at the peaks of Pflanzgarten I and II on the Ring leave the ground, but the Cayenne Coupe’s bike path kept the large crossover SUV solid and controlled, with the wheels never leaving the sidewalk, according to Kern.

Porsche hasn’t released full performance or drivetrain details for this new Cayenne Coupe model yet, but it has confirmed that it will have over 600 horsepower. It sings through a titanium exhaust system with centrally mounted double exhaust trims. Porsche said its 0-60 mph sprint is expected to be in the same range as the 992 GT3 with the PDK. For reference, the 992 GT3 can go from 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds with the PDK.

Legendary racing driver Walter Röhrl drove a prototype and said it felt like sitting in a compact sports car rather than a large SUV.

This model will be more than just extra performance. Several chassis modifications including an updated PDCC anti-roll system are expected along with wheels and tires that are 0.5 inches wider than the Cayenne Coupe Turbo. The negative camber is increased by 0.45 degrees, which allows a larger contact area to give the Corsa tires more grip.

This new model will be placed between the Cayenne Coupe Turbo and Cayenne Coupe Turbo S E-Hybrid E-Hybrid models, but it is not expected to be a hybrid.

Porsche said the new Cayenne Coupe Performance variant will be named and presented soon.
